At Foundation Dental, we are proud to support the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and provide comprehensive dental services to our community

What is the CDCP?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal initiative designed to make dental care more accessible and affordable for eligible Canadian residents.

Who can apply for the CDCP?

Qualification for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is based on multiple factors, such as age, income level, and disability status. To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet the following requirements:

Age:

  • Seniors aged 65 and over.

  • Children under the age of 18.

  • Adults with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023.

Income Threshold:

Your adjusted family net income must be below $90,000.

Lack of Access to Dental Insurance:

You must not have access to any type of dental insurance or coverage through:

  • Your employer or your spouse's employer.

  • A private plan.

  • A government program (such as non-insured health benefits for Indigenous peoples or other federal, provincial, or territorial programs).

Residency & Tax Filing:

You must be a Canadian resident and have filed your tax returns in Canada so that your family income can be assessed for the previous year.

What Services Does the CDCP Cover?

The CDCP offers coverage for a wide range of dental services, including:

Diagnostic and Preventive Services:

  • Dental exams (complete, routine, specific, and emergency)

  • X-rays

  • Cleanings (scaling)

  • Fluoride applications

  • Sealants

Basic Services:

  • Restorative Services: Permanent and temporary fillings, pain control for diseased teeth.

  • Endodontic Services: Root canal treatments, pulpectomies, procedures to reduce infection and relieve pain.

  • Periodontal Services: Cleaning under the gumline, treating abscesses, non-surgical gum disease management.

Major Services:

  • Restorative Services: Posts, repairs to crowns, crowns (requires preauthorization), cores to support crowns.

Note: Some services, including those beyond established frequency limits, require preauthorization by the CDCP.

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is being implemented in phases. Applications for the CDCP are now open for seniors aged 65 and over, children under the age of 18, and adults with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023. How much does the CDCP cover?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) provides coverage based on your adjusted family net income. At Foundation Dental, we do not charge over the CDCP fees, but depending on your income level and coverage you may have a co-payment. Here’s how it works:

Income-Based Co-Payments:

  • Families with an adjusted net income under $70,000 have no co-payments and receive full coverage within the CDCP limits.

  • Families earning $70,000 - $79,999 must pay 40% of the cost of covered services.

  • Families earning $80,000 - $89,999 must pay 60% of the cost of covered services.

Preauthorization for Certain Services:

Some treatments, such as major restorative work (crowns, bridges, dentures), require preapproval and may have spending limits. While the CDCP aims to make dental care more affordable, there may be out-of-pocket costs depending on whether the procedure is fully covered under the plan.

We are proud to accept the CDCP at Foundation Dental. Participation in the CDCP is voluntary for dental providers, and not all dentists may choose to participate.
